Water Diet
One of the hardest things for people to do when it comes to dieting is drinking more water. People underestimate the importance of water more than any other nutrient. The water diet was intended to be a supplement, not a stand-alone diet. Obviously, the body needs more than plain water to function. However, many people make the mistake of being extreme in the other direction, feeding the body food and starving it of water.
The body is made up of 70% water. Water is an important part of the digestion and absorption processes of the body. It also plays a huge role in the assimilation of food and the excretion of waste from the body. There are many signs that your body needs more water: headaches, constipation and dark urine, bad breath and poor concentration to name a few.
The whole point of the water diet is to promote drinking the required amount of water each day. It is a slow diet, and is not meant to induce overnight weight loss, but rather long term weight loss and control. One of the keys to the water diet is to drink water free from added sugars and flavors, such as fruit waters. Water with additives requires digestion to break down the sugars. It also elevates glucose levels, which is exactly what you don’t want to do when you are trying to lose and maintain your weight. The water diet is safe for everyone. However, if you are not accustomed to drinking a lot of water, you may temporarily have an issue with bloating. But it should be a short-lived problem.
Of course, as with any diet, exercise is very important. In order to get the most out of your water diet, incorporate daily exercise into your lifestyle. You will be surprised just how much weight you can lose when you mix water and exercise. One thing you can say for sure, the water diet is definitely the cheapest diet there is. It sure beats spending the hundreds or thousands of dollars on the latest weight loss gimmicks, prepackaged meals and diet program fees.
