South Beach Diet
If you are considering becoming a part of the low-carb or low-fat diet craze, you may be wondering which program will offer you the best chance of success. With so many diets available today, and many with just subtle differences that make them unique, how can you be sure you have chosen the best one? This is easiest to explain by examining two diets side by side. Lets say that you are most interested in the low-carb diet, the most popular diet in America today. The two most popular diets in this genre are the Atkins and the South Beach Diets. They are very similar in structure, yet have differences that are quite substantial in the long-term.

The key differences between the South Beach Diet plan and the Atkins diet is the source of protein. The South Beach Diet promotes the consumption of unsaturated fats as the protein source. Whereas, the Atkins diet looks to saturated animal protein as the primary protein source, which seems to many these days as a very foolish thing to do. The South Beach Diet does not count carbohydrates and in fact, recommends low-sugar carbs. The Atkins diet strictly counts carbs and recommends eliminating them completely.

Both the South Beach and the Atkins Diets have a strict induction phase. With both diet plans foods such as potatoes, fruit, bread, cereal, rice, pasta, beets, carrots, and corn are not allowed, especially in the induction phase. After the 14-day induction period, on both the South Beach Diet and the Atkins Diet, you will have to adhere to a food list that is very limited. The South Beach Diet does allow dairy products; however only limited servings and it also allows for you to incorporate carbs slowly back into your diet until you desired weight is achieved. There are many information sources available online that you can review prior to starting such a diet. The biggest tip I can give you if you are considering starting the South Beach Diet or any other diet for that matter, is to make sure you take a look at the acceptable food list. It is also wise to explore diet recipes, especially the phase 1-diet recipes before you go on the plan. Proper knowledge of any weight loss program is the key to success. And in this case, if you cannot stick to the food list, the diet will fail miserably.
