carsdale Diet
Fad diets are everywhere in American society today. Americans are weight loss crazy and the weight loss industry knows exactly how to turn America’s obesity problem into huge profits. The weight loss industry is a billion dollar industry, and the naive public is what the industry counts on to keep those profits rolling in. The industry actually counts on people to fail at one diet and try another.
The Scarsdale diet is one of the all time classic fad diets. It is a seven to fourteen day low carbohydrate high protein diet that requires eating lots of grapefruit, sugar free beverages and even encourages appetite suppressant pills. There is no snacking allowed with the Scarsdale diet and encourages the use of artificial sweeteners.
Like most low-carb diets these days, the diet is also very low in fiber, which can cause a very sluggish digestive track resulting in chronic constipation issues. Fatigue is also a problem with the high protein diets, as energy comes from carbohydrates.
The Scarsdale diet plan is also another diet plan that does not fair well for the long-term. As with most low-carb high protein diets, people usually put the weight back on very quickly after the 14 day period. The Scarsdale diet is not a diet that would be beneficial or even encouraged in any way for the long term.
When it comes down to it, I have several bones to pick with the Scarsdale diet. One being that this diet does not in any way encourage exercise. This is probably partly because the Scarsdale diet limits calorie intake so dramatically that the body wouldn’t even have enough energy to exercise anyway! However, it is still gives false hopes to dieters that actually think they can lose weight without exercise, what a crock! Secondly, the Scarsdale diet menu actually calls for diet sodas. It absolutely blows my mind that you would give the dieter a choice between water and diet soda. What in the world are they thinking? This is one of the worst fad diets I have come across. Anyone that falls for a diet like this one is in for a lot of disappointment.
