Mayo Clinic Diet
Of all the weight loss diets and schemes today, the Mayo Clinic Diet is probably one of the most misunderstood, altered diets out there. The Mayo Clinic Diet has been associated with eating unlimited amounts of grapefruit, fruits, vegetables, meat and fat. However, according to authorities at the Mayo Clinic, this is not the real Mayo Clinic diet at all. In fact, the Mayo Clinic denies endorsing any such diet.
The Mayo Clinic diet has many altered versions of the same thing. However, probably the most known and most attempted diet is the egg and grapefruit Mayo Clinic diet. Here is how it works.
• Breakfast should consist of two eggs, 2 strips of bacon and grapefruit juice. Coffee or black tea can be consumed as well.
• For lunch you eat a small portion of meat, a salad with of course, light dressing and grapefruit juice.
• Dinner should consist of meat and a vegetable and grapefruit juice.
• You are supposed to stick to the diet for twelve days, take two days off and then get back on for another twelve.
The problem with this diet is that it is very hard to keep at it for the first twelve days let alone the last twelve. Most people find themselves hungry all the time and very sick of the food within a matter of two to three days. If you actually stick with it, the pounds will come off. However, the Mayo Clinic diet is one of those crash diets that will lead to weight gain as soon as you come off of it. It just is not a realistic long-term plan. Not only that, but also many people claimed that they felt very sluggish, moody and even lethargic on the Mayo Clinic diet. This is probably partly due to the fact that the diet puts too much stress on high fat and cholesterol foods and virtually starves the body of many other important foods.
The bottom line is that the Mayo Clinic diet does work if you are looking to quickly shed some pounds, however I would in no way recommend such a diet for the long term. It is impractical and does not give the body everything it needs. There are many healthier diet plans out there to choose from.
