IBS Diet
Ten to fifteen percent of the United States population suffers from irritable bowel syndrome, a painfully devastating condition of the insides that causes a great deal of pain and discomfort for those who are afflicted.

One of the unfortunate parts of being one of those afflicted with irritable bowel syndrome is that it forces you to change your eating habits; if you are an IBS sufferer you must eventually adopt a certain IBS diet full of foods that are easy to digest and get through the body without causing any pain or stoppage.

Usually, if you think you have IBS your doctor should be able to tell you for sure; there are a couple of different symptoms that actually lead physicians to diagnose IBS, but the disease is rather new in origin so as of yet there have been no specific variations named. The only treatment for irritable bowel syndrome really is adopting a special IBS diet to help ease the pain. Certain foods are simply too tough to digest for IBS sufferers, causing horrible pain and bloating but a good IBS diet really can help, and that is closer to a cure than nothing.

IBS diets are not about sticking to a particular meal plan like other diets, but more understanding what foods trigger certain symptoms. This is different for everybody, but foods that are particularly high in saturated fat or sugars are extremely wearing on the body and the GI tract in particular.

Also, fatty meats are also wearing on the body and can lead to intestinal pains and problems as well. Unfortunately it can be hard to detect a pattern as to which foods trigger an attack of the horrible irritable bowel syndrome, whereas it is easy to be certain that other foods will trigger an attack. The most reliable method of being able to tell is to keep a journal of all the foods that you have eaten during the day; make it as detailed a list as possible and record any discomfort that you experience so you can look back over an extended period of time and see how certain foods made you feel in the past. This does not always mean they will make you feel the same way, but it is a more reliable way of constructing an IBS diet of your own than nothing.
