Fad Diets
Fad diets are a temporary solution to a huge problem. Moreover, they provide false hope to millions and millions of diet crazed Americans each year. Sadly, teenagers are even finding it necessary to jump on the fad diet bandwagon more than ever before in our history. There seems to be an almost never-ending supply of popular fad diets these days. In my opinion, although there are multitudes of popular fad diets, I wouldn’t say that any is really much better than another. However, there are some weight loss diets out there that, in my opinion, are just downright dangerous.

Fad diets are designed with profits in mind it is really that simple. The weight loss industry is a billion dollar industry, and the naive public is what the industry counts on to keep those profits rolling in. This is the primary reason that a new fly by night weight loss plan, diet pill or diet weight loss drink is introduced to the general public at a constant rate. The industry counts on people to fail at one diet and try another.

The problem with fad diets is that although many of them do produce temporary results, in order to maintain those results you must essentially stay on the diet indefinitely, and many of the most popular fad diets today are not at all suited for the long-term.

I am sure you have heard the many diet horror stories where someone has been on a low or no carb diet for weeks or months and has successfully lost weight. However, the first time they eat a plate of pasta or a whole grain sandwich, they blow up like a balloon. This does in fact happen to many people. This is because a fad diet is not a practical long-term diet. You can successfully lose weight on a diet such as the low-carb diet, by eliminating foods that are commonly stored as fat. However, if and when you choose to consume those foods again, your body will go into emergency fat storage mode. This will result in not only gaining back the weight that you lost, sometimes you will gain back even more. True weight loss demands a lifestyle change.
