Blood Type Diet
One of the most promising diets being targeted to Americans today is the Blood Type Diet. The basis for this diet is that all people are different and require different foods for optimal health. Founded on the principles from the best selling book, Eat Right 4 Your Type by Naturopath Peter D’Adamo, the Blood Type Diet is the diet of choice for people who are adapting a lifestyle change. I love this diet in that it promotes healthy eating habits and it can be seen as more of a lifestyle change than a fad diet. If you are not familiar with this diet, here is a simple outline of how it works.

According to Dr. Peter DÁdamo, a chemical reaction occurs between your blood and the foods you eat. Each of the food groups are divided into three categories: Foods that act like medicine, foods that do not affect your blood type, and foods that act like a poison to your system.

The Blood Type A Diet Simple Outline
The blood type A diet is basically a vegetarian based diet. One of the reasons for this is that people with blood type A have low stomach acid content and cannot digest animal proteins easily. People with this blood type will be in best health if they take in a diet consisting of mainly fruits and vegetables, seafood, tofu, grains (other than wheat), beans and legumes. If someone with blood type A wants to lose weight they must AVOID meat, dairy products, kidney and lima beans and wheat products. The best foods for weight loss on the Blood Type Diet A are olive & peanut oils, soy products, all vegetables and pineapple.

The Blood Type B Diet Simple Outline
The blood type B diet incorporates a good balance between animal protein and fruits and vegetables. People with blood type B can eat all meats except chicken, dairy products, fruits, vegetables, beans, legumes and select grains. The blood type B diet does not allow such foods as corn, peanuts, sesame, seeds, wheat and buckwheat. Some of the most effective foods for weight loss on the blood type B diet are greens, eggs, venison, liver, licorice and herbal teas.

The Blood Type AB Diet Simple Outline
The blood type AB diet is also a well mixed diet. People with blood type AB can eat all meats except red meat, dairy products, seafood, fruits, vegetables, tofu, beans, legumes and all grains. People with blood type AB should stay away from items such as red meat, corn, kidney beans, lima beans and seeds. If people with blood type AB want to lose weight they should eat a diet rich in foods such as tofu, seafood, dairy, kelp and pineapple.

The Blood Type O Diet Simple Outline
People with type O blood require a high protein diet. People with type O blood should eat a diet rich in animal proteins, fish, fruits and vegetables. On the blood type O diet, beans, legumes and grains are limited. It is advised that people on the blood type O diet also avoid foods such as wheat, corn, kidney and navy beans, cabbage, brussel sprouts and cauliflower. The best food choices for weight loss for type O’s are kelp, red meat, seafood, liver, kale, spinach and broccoli.
