Atkins Diet
The Atkins diet has been all the rage for the past several years. Many people swear by it and would recommend it to a friend. However, just because they have lost weight does not mean that they are healthier. In fact, professionals have criticized the Atkins diet for as long as it has been on the market. The biggest reason for this criticism is the high amount of animal protein and fat that is consumed.

Most people know that eating too much animal flesh and high fat foods lead to cardiac problems, high cholesterol and even high blood pressure. The Atkins menu plans and provided recipes put a great significance on eating high fat foods, much more than is recommended. However, this freedom is one of the benefits that draw an untold number of people to this diet. That is a very unsettling thought to me. In fact, because on this diet you can eat as much of these foods as you want, people can easily get on track to do damage to other organs of the body while trying to successfully lose weight. In other words, trading one evil for another.

Outside of the high emphasis on animal protein and high fat foods, the Atkins diet places extremely low emphasis on dietary fiber, which can lead to very sluggish digestive systems and chronic constipation issues. Furthermore, many people complain about the lack of energy they have on this diet. Energy of course comes from carbohydrates, the best source being fruits and vegetables.

The diets of today are designed with profits in mind, and that is the bottom line. The Atkins diet started a revolution in the weight loss industry with its many books and weight loss products. It is a fad diet and it works only for a while. If you want to sustain your weight loss, you must change your lifestyle. A crash diet or a fad diet such as the Atkins diet is not for the long-term. They are designed to help you shed some pounds fast. Inevitably however, you will probably come crashing down like many people before you.
