Of the most basic calorie counting diets is the 1200 calorie diet. It comes in many forms and is an overall very successful weight loss plan if you can stick to it. There are plenty of cookbooks that promote the 1200 calorie diet and many online menu plans and recipes as well. This diet is one of the easiest to follow in terms of available information, however is harder to stick with if you are used to overeating, as most of us are.

There are a few key points consider to help you adhere to the strict standards of the 1200 calorie diet plan.

• One of the keys to this diet is to eat several small snacks throughout the day rather than one or two larger meals. If you resort to eating all of your calories at one or two meals, you will find yourself starving throughout the day. This is one of the quickest roads to failure.
• Another tip you may have heard numerous times throughout your life is to slow down when you eat. This is not just important for better digestion, but also for the supposed satisfaction feeling. Or better put, give yourself time to enjoy your food, it will make a difference in how you feel when you are done with it.
• Keep your meals interesting. Boredom is probably the second highest cause for people failing on their diets. If you are attempting to eat the same thing day in and day out, you will not stick with it.
• Water, water and more water is key here. Water works as a natural appetite suppresser. Before each meal and even every snack, drink an 8oz glass of water. You will be surprised how much it helps you maintain the 1200 calorie requirements on the diet.
• I always recommend supplementing with a good multivitamin. This is especially important when someone is on a diet where some important vitamins and minerals may be left out of the equation. Invest in a good multivitamin and multi-mineral supplement. This will ensure you will get all the proper nutrients if you do not choose your meals wisely.
